Consultation

This section details information about the consultation process.

The AWARD project identified 3 important stakeholder groups;

1. Advocacy employers and advocates
2. Advocacy service users
3. Commissioners of advocacy services

In June and July, 6 events were held across England and Wales to find out from advocacy employers and advocates what modules should be developed, if any, in addition to the statutory required modules of Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy and Independent Mental Health Advocacy. Over 150 people attended these events and discussed what length and level the course should be and looked at the content of the course. Following these events, a number of workshops were held with people who have used advocacy services. Service users with learning disabilities, sensory impairments, who had experience of mental illness or had been detained under mental health legislation and young people met with Kate Mercer to talk about what they think advocates should be trained in.
