Through consultation with stakeholders including advocacy employers, advocates, advocacy service users and commissioners, the project has established a consensus to create a Vocational Related Qualification in Independent Advocacy. 

It is expected the course will be:

  • Offered at Level 3 and 4
  • 8 -11 taught days in length
  • Modular in structure offering core units in generic advocacy and additional modules in specialist areas
  • Available from September 2008

Learners will be required to complete four modules in generic advocacy to achieve the qualification. Each module will be taught over the equivalent of 2 full days each.  The specialist modules will be taught over 2-3 days.

Core Modules in generic advocacy; 
1          The Purpose and Principles of Independent Advocacy
2          Providing Effective Independent Advocacy Support
3          Maintaining the Advocacy Relationship
4          Understanding and Responding to the Advocacy Needs of Different Groups 


Specialist Modules;
5          Independent Adult advocacy
6          Independent Mental Health Advocacy
7          Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy
8          Independent Children's advocacy
9          Independent Advocacy Management
