Project Aims
The overall aim of the Award project is to create a National Advocacy Qualification. It is intended that the qualification will be relevant to a range of people, including paid advocates, volunteer advocates, advocacy managers and people who would like a route into advocacy.
The goal is to have the qualification available to learners from September 2008.
The project has identified a number of other objectives:
1. To establish the need and demand for a qualification and the different 'specialist' pathways. This is important as it will influence which modules are developed and included within the Qualification.
2. To work with Sector Skills Councils to identify National Occupational Standards (NOS) to underpin the training. NOS are important as they describe the tasks or role of an advocate and will determine what knowledge and skills an advocate must have.
3. To create and disseminate training materials to support trainers and learners during the delivery of the qualification.
4. To support training organisations and trainers to build capacity and links with the Awarding Body to enable the delivery of the course across England and Wales.
